Developed a migration proxy layer for the grafana/grafana repository, enabling phased migration of annotation data to a new API server. The solution was implemented in Go and focused on backend development, API design, and configuration management. By introducing configurable options for the API server URL and migration phase, the proxy allowed annotation repository requests to be routed seamlessly between the legacy and new systems. This approach preserved compatibility with existing APIs while supporting incremental rollout and reducing migration risk. The work emphasized reliability and system architecture, enabling writes to the new system while maintaining legacy read behavior for controlled adoption.
June 2026 monthly summary for grafana/grafana focused on delivering a high-impact, low-risk migration capability for annotations. The primary deliverable this month is a Proxy layer that enables phased migration to a new API server while preserving compatibility with the legacy API. Written with an emphasis on reliability and incremental rollout, this work reduces migration risk and supports controlled adoption of the new system.
