Worked on enhancing the reliability of the Voice Synthesis feature in the openhab/openhab-addons repository, focusing on backend development and robust error handling. Addressed a critical issue where the Google Cloud Text-to-Speech API could return an error response, leading to a potential null pointer exception. Implemented a targeted fix in Java by introducing a null check for the audio content before invoking byte conversion, which prevented crashes in the voice synthesis path. This improvement reduced the risk of user-facing failures and contributed to a more stable experience. The work demonstrated strong skills in API integration and defensive programming practices.
