Worked on improving file watching reliability and configurability within the Shopify/rails repository, focusing on backend development using Ruby and Ruby on Rails. Addressed a persistent issue with flaky file update checks in tests that relied on time travel by updating the FileUpdateChecker to use process time, resulting in more stable and predictable test outcomes. Enhanced the route reloader to ensure it respected the configured file watcher, thereby increasing configurability and stability in production-like environments. Delivered targeted bug fixes that contributed to greater CI stability and reduced the frequency of flaky test runs, demonstrating attention to robust backend engineering practices.
