Worked on the openhab/openhab-addons repository to enhance the reliability and maintainability of the Tesla Vehicle Handler, focusing on backend development with Java. Addressed a production issue by introducing defensive null-safety patterns for handling external state data, specifically adding null checks for driveState and chargeState to prevent crashes caused by unavailable states. This approach reduced the crash surface and improved runtime resilience in production environments. The work emphasized clear, traceable commit messages and thorough sign-off practices, supporting maintainability and code review. Demonstrated attention to robust error handling and code quality, leveraging Java and backend engineering skills throughout the process.
