Worked on enhancing the Web Application Firewall (WAF) within the Automattic/jetpack repository, focusing on reliability and standards compliance. Addressed two critical bugs by aligning the handling of empty Content-Type headers with RFC 7231 and refining the lifecycle management of MATCHED_VAR variables. Utilized PHP for backend development and implemented comprehensive unit testing to ensure correctness and maintainability. Expanded test coverage to validate new behaviors and updated changelog entries to document improvements. The work strengthened the security posture and request handling of the WAF, demonstrating a methodical approach to backend problem-solving and a commitment to robust, standards-based engineering practices.
