In June 2025, Maciej Borkowski developed initial taxonomy field support for metadata instance fields in the box/box-ui-elements repository, focusing on React-based front end development with JavaScript. He implemented read-only rendering for taxonomy fields, which allowed the UI to safely display new metadata types without introducing errors, supporting an incremental rollout strategy. To ensure reliability, he updated the test suite to validate the rendering of these fields in their current state. This work maintained backward compatibility and reduced risk in metadata-driven components, laying a foundation for future enhancements to flexible metadata schemas while aligning with broader product goals.
