Worked on the envoyproxy/gateway repository to implement support for using Kubernetes ServiceImport as a backend reference within SecurityPolicy and EnvoyExtensionPolicy resources. This involved updating validation rules and internal routing logic to process and route traffic to ServiceImports, thereby enabling more flexible external service configurations and enhancing policy-driven traffic management in multi-service environments. The work was carried out using Go and YAML, leveraging skills in backend services, Envoy, and Kubernetes policy management. By enabling interoperability with ServiceImport-based deployments, the changes addressed the need for expanded configuration options and improved enforcement of security and extension policies within Envoy Gateway.
