During January 2025, contributed to the google/perfetto repository by developing an Energy Usage Visualization feature that enhances energy profiling capabilities. This work introduced a new UI column and an accompanying SQL metric to display each thread’s and process’s energy consumption as a percentage of total energy, allowing users to quickly compare energy efficiency across workloads. The implementation involved TypeScript for UI development and SQL for metric calculation, demonstrating skills in data visualization and performance analysis. By improving observability into energy usage, the feature supports data-driven optimization decisions, facilitates identification of energy hotspots, and enables more effective power-cost management for users.
January 2025 monthly summary for google/perfetto: Feature delivered – Energy Usage Visualization. A new UI column and SQL metric show each thread's and each process's energy consumption as a percentage of total energy, enabling quick comparisons to target energy efficiency. This work is tracked under commit 5df51315e77a0dc61442c3c1cc0cf01c4a1017e3 (Add the column % of total energy for Wattson thread aggregator tab). Impact: improved observability for energy profiling, enabling data-driven optimization decisions, potential cost savings, and faster identification of energy hotspots. Bugs: No major bugs fixed this month. Skills demonstrated: UI development, SQL metric creation, data visualization, observability, code traceability, cross-repo coordination.
